Attention: Fall 2018 Application Deadline Has Been Extended
UCLA Materials Science and Engineering Fall 2018 Applicants:
Thank you for your interest in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). Please make sure that you read all requirements and application related information given below before starting the online application. The online application comes with complete instructions and further information. University regulations do not permit an applicant to apply to more than one major. Please decide which of our programs is most appropriate for you prior to submitting an application. Applicants with M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering will not be admitted for a duplicate degree at the same level. Please note that the MSE Department only accepts applications for Fall Quarter admission.
Please do not email the department to verify if materials have been received. The MSE Graduate Advisor Lili Bulhoes will email you if your application is incomplete or if any documents are missing.
The application deadline for Fall Quarter 2018 is December 15th, 2017 (Letters of Recommendations will be accepted until December 31st, 2017). Due to the high volume of application documents sent to our department, please make sure that all required documents are submitted by this deadline. If documents are submitted after this deadline, the applicant’s file may not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
You can start the application process by completing the Online Application for Graduate Admission.
Checking Decision Status
You can check your admission decision status through the Online Decision Status for Graduate Admission starting March 1st, 2018. The deadline to respond to admission and award offers as published by the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States is April 15th, 2018.

Financial Statement for International Students
The office of Graduate Admissions at UCLA requires that international admits prove that they have at least $48,312.00 at their disposal for the first academic year. According to U.S. Immigration and Naturalization regulations, the UCLA may issue Certificates of Eligibility (I-20 forms) for visas only to applicants who have been offered admission and have submitted documented evidence (e.g. bank statements, letters of sponsorship, etc.) of sufficient funds for their study at UCLA. These documents must bear the appropriate seals and signatures as well as state the full name of the applicant and the amount of the support offered. Please arrange to have these documents sent to our office by the application deadline. If Financial Statements are not received by the time of admission the I-20 form may be significantly delayed.
You will be able to print Financial Statement Forms during the online application. For more information about international students at UCLA visit the Center for International Students and Scholars.
