Jonathan Quan is Invited into the SAMPE Student Leader Experience Program

Jonathan Quan was recognized for his role as an Engineering Ethics TA in which he is able to remind and instill ethics in his students. It is imperative that future engineers understand the importance of their duties and the responsibility they hold as professional engineers. Jonathan also was recognized for his leadership roles in encouraging undergraduate and high school students to explore carbon fiber composites. With a handful of undergrads, they assembled a carbon fiber I beam that was 3”x3” in profile and 24” in length. It held 4300lbs under a 3 point bend payload. SAMPE is a society designed to bring both industry and academia together to showcase and share their work in composite and manufacturing techniques. This year, the Student Leadership Experience Program was held at the 2013 SAMPE Conference in Long Beach. The program allowed for increased opportunities to network and share work done on materials processing amongst fellow students and professionals. More importantly, the program is designed to further encourage young SAMPE members to continue their work and provide them a vision of their future roles in the advancement of materials and process engineering. Overall, Jonathan had a great experience at the conference and wants to play a role in future with structural materials.
